Spatio-spectral diagnostics of ultrashort laser pulses by means of statistical moments

For the analysis of spatially resolved spectral profiles from ultrashort pulse lasers complex data sets must be evaluated. This type of evaluation task is a classical example for demonstrating the efficiency of statistical moments. The calculations of centre of gravity and variance together reduce extensive spectral data to their fundamental characteristics. Furthermore, moments of higher order such as skewness or kurtosis provide more detailed information.
