Red VCSELs for high-speed data communication via POF

For efficient data communication via polymer optical fiber (POF) the emission wavelength of vertical cavity surface emitting semiconductor lasers (VCSELs) has to be adjusted to closely match one of the attenuation minima of POF. Effective heat removal plays a key role (thermal budget) in maintaining good performance parameters for such AlGaInP-lasers that emit at a wavelength of around 650 nm.
