Fabrication of ultra thin liquid crystal cells for fast phase modulation in a volume holographic data storage system

One approach in the development of new optical storage systems is volume holography. Here, the phase code multiplexing technique realised with liquid crystal cells can reach a high data density using the volume of the recording media. For fast data transfer while writing and reading the holograms it is necessary to reduce the response time of the liquid crystal phase modulator.
