Development of substrates for scanner mirrors and the potential for optimisation

High-performance laser beams for precision applications have to be deflected and steered; the laser source itself is moved only in exceptional cases. Instead, high-precision systems with fast-moving, steerable scanner mirrors are used for this purpose. The optical, mechanical and thermal requirements with regard to mirror surface and support require more and more frequently the use of specifically developed high-performance ceramics.
