The measurement of distance with high resolution is of great importance in many technical processes. Due to their non-contact and precise measurement principle optical sensors are employed in many cases. However, for fast moving objects their temporal resolution of a few milliseconds is often not sufficient. The newly developed laser Doppler distance sensor achieves a temporal resolution in the microsecond range and features a distance uncertainty that is independent of the object’s lateral velocity.
