High pixel rate and dynamic range: designing customer specific CMOS sensors

New applications are challenging CMOS image sensors in terms of speed, resolution and dynamic range. Meanwhile, several innovations have raised their specifications to the extreme: fast readout, almost no noise, low parasitic sensitivity, and sensor areas extending up to wafer size. Two examples illustrate the significant progress achieved: a fast 20 MPixel sensor for industrial image processing and a panorama sensor for multi-spectral air reconnaissance.
